Introducing ideas on the negotiated use of filmic space, the project is concerned with the direct act of looking how looking and seeing can indeed become a veritable act. The resulting 23 minute artist’s film reveals his extraordinary encounter with The Girl with X-ray Eyes. Last summer, artist Phillip Warnell went to Moscow and offered up his own body as the subject for Natasha’s scrutiny before a series of witnesses. Using a form of supplementary vision or second sight, she produces detailed medical diagnoses. A Russian medical student, she is purported to have the ability to look directly inside bodies. Since January 2006, Natasha Demkina is working for the Centre of Special Diagnostics of the Natalya Demkina (TSSD). Later Natasha also started charging patients for diagnosis. She could locate a prosthetic knee and discovered that a woman was pregnant. In 2004 Natasha was brought to UK to test her vision. Stories of Natasha reached UK through the newspaper, The Sun. After several examinations, it was revealed that the woman indeed did not have cancer. Natasha examined her and said that it was just a small cyst and not cancer. Using her vision, she also corrected a wrong diagnosis made by the doctors about a lady who was supposedly suffering from cancer. To one of the doctors, she showed a picture of something inside his stomach. Natasha was taken to a local children’s hospital where she correctly diagnosed the children. On hearing her stories, doctors in her hometown decided to put her to test. I could see inside my mother’s body and I started telling her about the organs I could see. I was at home with my mother and suddenly I had a vision.
